In an article for the property website realestate.com.au, Holly Jones talks about how gen X and gen Y have both girded up their loins in conserving/saving energy. It is heartening to know that we have become really energy-conscious today and Miss Jones knows the connotations of the term “energy-conscious” when she talks about it.
People are well-informed on energy-savings…..
While we could see detached or “I don’t know” faces when people were surveyed about energy issues in the past, a recent survey came up with pretty interesting results. On being asked about the measure they have undertaken to make their homes friendlier to the environment, almost everyone (except a meagre 4.2%) came up with a concrete answer.
….and they are taking the right steps
This goes to prove that we know what we need to do-the kind of concrete steps required- to make our homes more energy-conscious. Installing an LED light bulb is on top of people’s work plan. Next to it is the installation of water-saving showerheads.
Men and women are equally contributing
The men are routinely taking up composting exercises and women are busy recycling water around their houses to pre-empt any possible wastage scenario. We are being very careful when it comes to switching off the oven or closing the tap after the job is done.
We are being diligent with our blinds in summer; knowing that this simple act can reduce the workload on our air conditioners, bringing down our energy bills.

We are ‘green’ in our thoughts and actions
Are Aussies any good at living a green life? It turns out we’re doing our best and making smarter choices and are on board with the idea that every little bit helps. I remember people being ignorant and even quite repulsive to the idea of modern showerheads and flush toilets a few years ago.
They have considerably warmed up to them, having understood that water used by ‘modern’ as against the ‘traditional’ flush toilets and showerheads is less than half. Cultivating a mindset of energy-saving has been just as crucial to us as following the process itself. Kudos to the Australian citizenry!
