If you have kids at home, there is no way you can design a home without looking deep into what they may require. The inherent needs of children are far different from the needs of grown-ups. Satisfying their appetite can seem a simple business and in actuality, it is, but you have to first acknowledge that their needs are just as valid.
Homes oriented towards kids
There have been changes and they augur well and augur badly for the children of the present generation. To give an instance, in my growing years, I was told to keep away from furniture (we, the children of earlier decades were all in the same boat) of the living area. Today, the array of sophisticated furniture has all but ensured that even toddlers can break and bend to their heart’s delight.
Now, let me narrate a small example of an area the children of the present generation have odds stacked against them. They love their tech gadgets, don’t they? And every time they make a face over something or shed a few tears over something, they become rich by a gadget. But these are not vanish-in-a-blink gadgets. They need being stored. And where does all this storage space come from if you do not make a separate storage for them. The point I am trying to make is simple. If you have children at home your home should be designed keeping them in mind.
Kids need to be monitored
Kids need to be kept within monitoring distance. Hence, their rooms must be built close to the living area where they can be monitored with ease. The kitchens need to accommodate both their study area and their computer table. This way, you can keep tab on their eating habits. Given a chance, kids like gobbling on junk food but as parents it is your duty to feed them healthy things.
Mudroom/laundry room
If you have children at home, the laundry room won’t suffice. You need a combination of mudroom and laundry room. This again shall be built in a way that the combo room can be accessed straightaway from the garage. After all, you don’t want the children (especially those who mess more) to make the whole house seeped knee-deep in mud.
Pets destroy flooring
Kids have great affinity for pets and pets have great love for destroying the flooring while they can. So, you need to abstain away from carpets; they can be easily soiled by the pets.
College program
If your child has grown up, he or she may be looking at a college program. In the given event, he is likely to return to you in the phase between becoming a graduate and becoming a first-home buyer. Build accordingly.
