Often, we yearn to move to quieter towns; far from the maddening crowd. We relish the small holidays we spend at the countryside. Yet, we choke this desire, fearing the cold logistics of moving the entire family.
We rarely care to think that even those quiet towns may have a life and settlement. While shifting, all we need is to jot down certain aspects before actually moving out, say, from Sydney to Nowra.
Primary considerations
Actually, there are three considerations of priority while shifting lock, stock and barrel; namely, accessibility, location and security. While zeroing down on a neighbourhood in the mooted town, check whether it enjoys convenient transportation to and fro or not.
It should be preferably centrally located where you will be in proximity to hospitals, airport and entertainment areas. The security quotient must, at any rate, be acceptable there and the neighbours more or less well-read.
Recollect your habits
You will not be bidding adieu to your habits in a hurry. While some fancy promenades, quite a few like visiting pubs every other day. Nearness of parks and playgrounds is almost a must if you have little children. You should ensure that your habits are not compromised before actually shifting to the new town.
Academic concerns
Wherever you shift, you should be within passable distance of eminent schools (for the benefit of kids). Elements of necessity should all be easily available. There should be one or two libraries nearby. Yes, there will be a slight come-down for your lifestyle, considering you are moving from a bigger city, but what you will gain is relative quietude.
Make a self-assessment
It will only be prudent if you make a solo trip to the chosen town for 3-5 days and assess the level of gentrification of people that reside in the neighbourhood you will shift into. If it is a business-oriented town, there will logically be less rush. Visit the major landmarks and jot down certain areas you will like your kids to visit. Take a first-person account of your supposed next destination.
Check the weather
Your body learns to adjust to the climate of the place when you stay there for a long while. Thus, you should make sure that the general climate of the new neighbourhood is not diametrically opposite to where you stay now. Give your family the synopsis of your readings of the neighbourhood so that they can also adjust to the idea.
